Underwriters: You’re Worth More Than You Think

There’s a quiet truth in the title industry that nobody says out loud. Good underwriters are hard to find. Really hard.

Every closing depends on someone who can look at a messy chain of title, spot the risk and make the call. That’s you. Escrow can move fast and sales can bring in the orders, but without a sharp underwriter the whole thing stalls.

So why are so many underwriters sitting in roles that undervalue them?

Usually it’s loyalty. You’ve been somewhere a while, you know the systems and the people, and moving feels like a hassle. That’s fair. But it’s worth asking yourself a few honest questions:

  • When did you last get a raise that actually reflected your experience?

  • Are you getting the complex commercial work you want, or the same files on repeat?

  • Do you have the authority to make decisions, or are you second-guessed on everything?

  • Is remote or hybrid on the table, or is that a hard no?

If more than one of those made you wince, it might be time to look around. Not jump. Just look.

Companies are actively competing for experienced underwriters right now, especially those with commercial exposure. That means better pay, real flexibility and roles where your judgement is respected.

You don’t have to update your resume or apply anywhere to find out what you’re worth. A confidential conversation is enough.

Thinking about your next move? Let’s talk.
